1 Corinthians 4:8-18

NRS 8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! Quite apart from us you have become kings! Indeed, I wish that you had become kings, so that we might be kings with you! NIV 8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have become kings--and that without us! How I wish that you really had become kings so that we might be kings with you! NRS 9 For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, as though sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to mortals. NIV 9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. NRS 10 We are fools for the sake of Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. NIV 10 We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! NRS 11 To the present hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clothed and beaten and homeless, NIV 11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. NRS 12 and we grow weary from the work of our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; NIV 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; NRS 13 when slandered, we speak kindly. We have become like the rubbish of the world, the dregs of all things, to this very day. NIV 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world. NRS 14 I am not writing this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. NIV 14 I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. NRS 15 For though you might have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers. Indeed, in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. NIV 15 Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. NRS 16 I appeal to you, then, be imitators of me. NIV 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me. NRS 17 For this reason I sent you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ Jesus, as I teach them everywhere in every church. NIV 17 For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church. NRS 18 But some of you, thinking that I am not coming to you, have become arrogant. NIV 18 Some of you have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you.
