1 Corinthians 7:17-24

ESV 17 Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches. NIV 17 Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. ESV 18 Was anyone at the time of his call already circumcised? Let him not seek to remove the marks of circumcision. Was anyone at the time of his call uncircumcised? Let him not seek circumcision. NIV 18 Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. ESV 19 For neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but keeping the commandments of God. NIV 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God's commands is what counts. ESV 20 Each one should remain in the condition in which he was called. NIV 20 Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. ESV 21 Were you a slave when called? Do not be concerned about it. (But if you can gain your freedom, avail yourself of the opportunity.) NIV 21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you--although if you can gain your freedom, do so. ESV 22 For he who was called in the Lord as a slave is a freedman of the Lord. Likewise he who was free when called is a slave of Christ. NIV 22 For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. ESV 23 You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men. NIV 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. ESV 24 So, brothers,in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God. NIV 24 Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.
