1 Kings 8:10-20

NRS 10 And when the priests came out of the holy place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, NIV 10 When the priests withdrew from the Holy Place, the cloud filled the temple of the LORD. NRS 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord. NIV 11 And the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled his temple. NRS 12 Then Solomon said, "The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. NIV 12 Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; NRS 13 I have built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever." NIV 13 I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever." NRS 14 Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood. NIV 14 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them. NRS 15 He said, "Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David, saying, NIV 15 Then he said: "Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, NRS 16 "Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any of the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.' NIV 16 'Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built for my Name to be there, but I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.' NRS 17 My father David had it in mind to build a house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. NIV 17 "My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel. NRS 18 But the Lord said to my father David, "You did well to consider building a house for my name; NIV 18 But the LORD said to my father David, 'Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart. NRS 19 nevertheless you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.' NIV 19 Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, who is your own flesh and blood--he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.' NRS 20 Now the Lord has upheld the promise that he made; for I have risen in the place of my father David; I sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. NIV 20 "The LORD has kept the promise he made: I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the LORD promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
