1 Peter 1:13-25

NLT 13 So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the special blessings that will come to you at the return of Jesus Christ. NIV 13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. NLT 14 Obey God because you are his children. Don't slip back into your old ways of doing evil; you didn't know any better then. NIV 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. NLT 15 But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God -- who chose you to be his children -- is holy. NIV 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; NLT 16 For he himself has said, "You must be holy because I am holy." NIV 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy." NLT 17 And remember that the heavenly Father to whom you pray has no favorites when he judges. He will judge or reward you according to what you do. So you must live in reverent fear of him during your time as foreigners here on earth. NIV 17 Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. NLT 18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. NIV 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, NLT 19 He paid for you with the precious lifeblood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. NIV 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. NLT 20 God chose him for this purpose long before the world began, but now in these final days, he was sent to the earth for all to see. And he did this for you. NIV 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. NLT 21 Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And because God raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory, your faith and hope can be placed confidently in God. NIV 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God. NLT 22 Now you can have sincere love for each other as brothers and sisters because you were cleansed from your sins when you accepted the truth of the Good News. So see to it that you really do love each other intensely with all your hearts. NIV 22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. NLT 23 For you have been born again. Your new life did not come from your earthly parents because the life they gave you will end in death. But this new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God. NIV 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. NLT 24 As the prophet says, "People are like grass that dies away; their beauty fades as quickly as the beauty of wildflowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall away. NIV 24 For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, NLT 25 But the word of the Lord will last forever." And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. NIV 25 but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.
