1 Peter 3:8-17

NLT 8 Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. NIV 8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. NLT 9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing. NIV 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. NLT 10 For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. NIV 10 For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. NLT 11 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it. NIV 11 He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. NLT 12 The eyes of the watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the turns his face against those who do evil.” NIV 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." NLT 13 Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? NIV 13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? NLT 14 But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don’t worry or be afraid of their threats. NIV 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." NLT 15 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. NIV 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, NLT 16 But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. NIV 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. NLT 17 Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong! NIV 17 It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
