1 Peter 3:8-17

NLT 8 Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds. NIV 8 Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble. NLT 9 Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it. NIV 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. NLT 10 For the Scriptures say, "If you want a happy life and good days, keep your tongue from speaking evil, and keep your lips from telling lies. Work hard at living in peace with others. NIV 11 He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. NLT 12 The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil." NIV 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." NLT 13 Now, who will want to harm you if you are eager to do good? NIV 13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? NLT 14 But even if you suffer for doing what is right, God will reward you for it. So don't be afraid and don't worry. NIV 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." NLT 15 Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. NIV 15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, NLT 16 But you must do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak evil against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ. NIV 16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. NLT 17 Remember, it is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to suffer for doing wrong! NIV 17 It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
