1 Peter 5

NLT 1 And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share his glory and his honor when he returns. As a fellow elder, this is my appeal to you: NIV 1 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ's sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed: NLT 2 Care for the flock of God entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly -- not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. NIV 2 Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; NLT 3 Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example. NIV 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. NLT 4 And when the head Shepherd comes, your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor. NIV 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away. NLT 5 You younger men, accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, serve each other in humility, for "God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble." NIV 5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." NLT 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and in his good time he will honor you. NIV 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. NLT 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you. NIV 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. NLT 8 Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. NIV 8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. NLT 9 Take a firm stand against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are. NIV 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. NLT 10 In his kindness God called you to his eternal glory by means of Jesus Christ. After you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. NIV 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. NLT 11 All power is his forever and ever. Amen. NIV 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. NLT 12 I have written this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I consider a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that the grace of God is with you no matter what happens. NIV 12 With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. NLT 13 Your sister church here in Rome sends you greetings, and so does my son Mark. NIV 13 She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. NLT 14 Greet each other in Christian love. Peace be to all of you who are in Christ. NIV 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
