1 Samuel 8:1-6

NRS 1 When Samuel became old, he made his sons judges over Israel. NIV 1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges for Israel. NRS 2 The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second, Abijah; they were judges in Beer-sheba. NRS 6 But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, "Give us a king to govern us." Samuel prayed to the Lord, NIV 6 But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
