NAS 1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, NIV 1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- NAS 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. NAS 8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. NIV 8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing. NAS 9 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, NIV 9 I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, NAS 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. NIV 10 but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. NAS 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. NIV 11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. NAS 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. NIV 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. NAS 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. NIV 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. NAS 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. NIV 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. NAS 15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint. NIV 15 But women will be saved through childbearing--if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
