1 Timothy 4:6-16

NLT 6 If you explain these things to the brothers and sisters, Timothy, you will be a worthy servant of Christ Jesus, one who is nourished by the message of faith and the good teaching you have followed. NIV 6 If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. NLT 7 Do not waste time arguing over godless ideas and old wives’ tales. Instead, train yourself to be godly. NIV 7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. NLT 8 “Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.” NIV 8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. NLT 9 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it. NIV 9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance NLT 10 This is why we work hard and continue to struggle, for our hope is in the living God, who is the Savior of all people and particularly of all believers. NIV 10 (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe. NLT 11 Teach these things and insist that everyone learn them. NIV 11 Command and teach these things. NLT 12 Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. NIV 12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. NLT 13 Until I get there, focus on reading the Scriptures to the church, encouraging the believers, and teaching them. NIV 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching. NLT 14 Do not neglect the spiritual gift you received through the prophecy spoken over you when the elders of the church laid their hands on you. NIV 14 Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you. NLT 15 Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress. NIV 15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. NLT 16 Keep a close watch on how you live and on your teaching. Stay true to what is right for the sake of your own salvation and the salvation of those who hear you. NIV 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
