2 Corinthians 13

CEB 1 This is the third time that I'm coming to visit you. Every matter is settled on the evidence of two or three witnesses. NIV 1 This will be my third visit to you. "Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses." CEB 2 When I was with you on my second visit, I already warned those who continued to sin. Now I'm repeating that warning to all the rest of you while I'm at a safe distance: if I come again, I won't spare anyone. NIV 2 I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others, CEB 3 Since you are demanding proof that Christ speaks through me, Christ isn't weak in dealing with you but shows his power among you. NIV 3 since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you. CEB 4 Certainly he was crucified because of weakness, but he lives by the power of God. Certainly we also are weak in him, but we will live together with him, because of God's power that is directed toward you. NIV 4 For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God's power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live with him to serve you. CEB 5 Examine yourselves to see if you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Don't you understand that Jesus Christ is in you? Unless, of course, you fail the test. NIV 5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test? CEB 6 But I hope that you will realize that we don't fail the test. NIV 6 And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. CEB 7 We pray to God that you don't do anything wrong, not because we want to appear to pass the test but so that you might do the right thing, even if we appear to fail. NIV 7 Now we pray to God that you will not do anything wrong. Not that people will see that we have stood the test but that you will do what is right even though we may seem to have failed. CEB 8 We can't do anything against the truth but only to help the truth. NIV 8 For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. CEB 9 We are happy when we are weak but you are strong. We pray for this: that you will be made complete. NIV 9 We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is for your perfection. CEB 10 This is why I'm writing these things while I'm away. I'm writing so that I won't need to act harshly when I'm with you by using the authority that the Lord gave me. He gave it to me so that I could build you up, not tear you down. NIV 10 This is why I write these things when I am absent, that when I come I may not have to be harsh in my use of authority--the authority the Lord gave me for building you up, not for tearing you down. CEB 11 Finally, brothers and sisters, good-bye. Put things in order, respond to my encouragement, be in harmony with each other, and live in peace—and the God of love and peace will be with you. NIV 11 Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. CEB 12 Say hello to each other with a holy kiss. All of God's people say hello to you. NIV 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. CEB 13 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. NIV 13 All the saints send their greetings.
