2 Timothy 2

NIRV 1 My son, be strong in the grace that is found in Christ Jesus. NIV 1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. NIRV 2 You have heard me teach in front of many witnesses. Pass on to men you can trust the things you've heard me say. Then they will be able to teach others also. NIV 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. NIRV 3 Like a good soldier of Christ Jesus, share in the hard times with us. NIV 3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. NIRV 4 A soldier does not take part in things that don't have anything to do with the army. He wants to please his commanding officer. NIV 4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer. NIRV 5 In the same way, anyone who takes part in a sport doesn't receive the winner's crown unless he plays by the rules. NIV 5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules. NIRV 6 The farmer who works hard should be the first to receive a share of the crops. NIV 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. NIRV 7 Think about what I'm saying. The Lord will help you understand what all of it means. NIV 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this. NIRV 8 Remember Jesus Christ. He came from David's family line. He was raised from the dead. That is my good news. NIV 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, NIRV 9 I am suffering for it. I have even been put in chains like someone who has committed a crime. But God's word is not held back by chains. NIV 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. NIRV 10 So I put up with everything for the good of God's chosen people. Then they also can be saved. Christ Jesus saves them. He gives them glory that will last forever. NIV 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. NIRV 11 Here is a saying you can trust. If we died with him, we will also live with him. NIV 11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; NIRV 12 If we don't give up, we will also rule with him. If we say we don't know him, he will also say he doesn't know us. NIV 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; NIRV 13 Even if we are not faithful, he will remain faithful. He must be true to himself. NIV 13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself. NIRV 14 Keep reminding the believers of those things. While God is watching, warn them not to argue about words. That doesn't have any value. It only destroys those who listen. NIV 14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. NIRV 15 Do your best to please God. Be a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed. Teach the message of truth correctly. NIV 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. NIRV 16 Stay away from godless chatter. Those who take part in it will become more and more ungodly. NIV 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. NIRV 17 Their teaching will spread like a deadly sickness. Hymenaeus and Philetus are two of those teachers. NIV 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, NIRV 18 They have wandered away from the truth. They say that the time when people will rise from the dead has already come. They destroy the faith of some people. NIV 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. NIRV 19 But God's solid foundation stands firm. Here is the message written on it. "The Lord knows who his own people are."(Numbers 16:5) Also, "All who say they believe in the Lord must turn away from evil." NIV 19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." NIRV 20 In a large house there are things made out of gold and silver. But there are also things made out of wood and clay. Some have honorable purposes. Others do not. NIV 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. NIRV 21 Suppose someone stays away from what is not honorable. Then the Master will be able to use him for honorable purposes. He will be made holy. He will be ready to do any good work. NIV 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. NIRV 22 Run away from the evil things that young people long for. Try hard to do what is right. Have faith, love and peace. Do these things together with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. NIV 22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. NIRV 23 Don't have anything to do with arguing. It is dumb and foolish. You know it only leads to fights. NIV 23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. NIRV 24 Anyone who serves the Lord must not fight. Instead, he must be kind to everyone. He must be able to teach. He must not hold anything against anyone. NIV 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. NIRV 25 He must gently teach those who oppose him. Maybe God will give a change of heart to those who are against you. That will lead them to know the truth. NIV 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, NIRV 26 Maybe they will come to their senses. Maybe they will escape the devil's trap. He has taken them prisoner to do what he wanted. NIV 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
