2 Chronicles 17:3-9

RSV 3 The LORD was with Jehosh'aphat, because he walked in the earlier ways of his father; he did not seek the Ba'als, NIV 3 The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because in his early years he walked in the ways his father David had followed. He did not consult the Baals RSV 4 but sought the God of his father and walked in his commandments, and not according to the ways of Israel. NIV 4 but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel. RSV 5 Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought tribute to Jehosh'aphat; and he had great riches and honor. NIV 5 The LORD established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor. RSV 6 His heart was courageous in the ways of the LORD; and furthermore he took the high places and the Ashe'rim out of Judah. NIV 6 His heart was devoted to the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and the Asherah poles from Judah. RSV 7 In the third year of his reign he sent his princes, Ben-hail, Obadi'ah, Zechari'ah, Nethan'el, and Micai'ah, to teach in the cities of Judah; NIV 7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach in the towns of Judah. RSV 8 and with them the Levites, Shemai'ah, Nethani'ah, Zebadi'ah, As'ahel, Shemi'ramoth, Jehon'athan, Adoni'jah, Tobi'jah, and Tobadoni'jah; and with these Levites, the priests Eli'shama and Jeho'ram. NIV 8 With them were certain Levites--Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah--and the priests Elishama and Jehoram. RSV 9 And they taught in Judah, having the book of the law of the LORD with them; they went about through all the cities of Judah and taught among the people. NIV 9 They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.
