2 Corinthians 2:5-11

RSV 5 But if any one has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure--not to put it too severely--to you all. NIV 5 If anyone has caused grief, he has not so much grieved me as he has grieved all of you, to some extent--not to put it too severely. RSV 6 For such a one this punishment by the majority is enough; NIV 6 The punishment inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient for him. RSV 7 so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. NIV 7 Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. RSV 8 So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. NIV 8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. RSV 9 For this is why I wrote, that I might test you and know whether you are obedient in everything. NIV 9 The reason I wrote you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything. RSV 10 Any one whom you forgive, I also forgive. What I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, NIV 10 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven--if there was anything to forgive--I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, RSV 11 to keep Satan from gaining the advantage over us; for we are not ignorant of his designs. NIV 11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
