2 Peter 1

CEB 1 From Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ. To those who received a faith equal to ours through the justice of our God and savior Jesus Christ. NRS 1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have received a faith as precious as ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: CEB 2 May you have more and more grace and peace through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. NRS 2 May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. CEB 3 By his divine power the Lord has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of the one who called us by his own honor and glory. NRS 3 His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. CEB 4 Through his honor and glory he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, that you may share the divine nature and escape from the world's immorality that sinful craving produces. NRS 4 Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the divine nature. CEB 5 This is why you must make every effort to add moral excellence to your faith; and to moral excellence, knowledge; NRS 5 For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, CEB 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, endurance; and to endurance, godliness; NRS 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, CEB 7 and to godliness, affection for others; and to affection for others, love. NRS 7 and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. CEB 8 If all these are yours and they are growing in you, they'll keep you from becoming inactive and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. NRS 8 For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. CEB 9 Whoever lacks these things is shortsighted and blind, forgetting that they were cleansed from their past sins. NRS 9 For anyone who lacks these things is nearsighted and blind, and is forgetful of the cleansing of past sins. CEB 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be eager to confirm your call and election. Do this and you will never ever be lost. NRS 10 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be all the more eager to confirm your call and election, for if you do this, you will never stumble. CEB 11 In this way you will receive a rich welcome into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. NRS 11 For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you. CEB 12 So I'll keep reminding you about these things, although you already know them and stand secure in the truth you have. NRS 12 Therefore I intend to keep on reminding you of these things, though you know them already and are established in the truth that has come to you. CEB 13 I think it's right that I keep stirring up your memory, as long as I'm alive. NRS 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to refresh your memory, CEB 14 After all, our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I am about to depart from this life. NRS 14 since I know that my death will come soon, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. CEB 15 I'm eager for you always to remember these things after my death. NRS 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things. CEB 16 We didn't repeat crafty myths when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Quite the contrary, we witnessed his majesty with our own eyes. NRS 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. CEB 17 He received honor and glory from God the Father when a voice came to him from the magnificent glory, saying, "This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well-pleased." NRS 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased." CEB 18 We ourselves heard this voice from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. NRS 18 We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain. CEB 19 In addition, we have a most reliable prophetic word, and you would do well to pay attention to it, just as you would to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. NRS 19 So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. CEB 20 Most important, you must know that no prophecy of scripture represents the prophet's own understanding of things, NRS 20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation, CEB 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will. Instead, men and women led by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. NRS 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
