2 Peter 3:1-6

ASV 1 This is now, beloved, the second epistle that I write unto you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by putting you in remembrance; NIV 1 Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. ASV 2 that ye should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of the Lord and Saviour through your apostles: NIV 2 I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles. ASV 3 knowing this first, that in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts, NIV 3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. ASV 4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. NIV 4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." ASV 5 For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and amidst water, by the word of God; NIV 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. ASV 6 by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: NIV 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.
