2 Peter 3:5-15

DBY 5 For this is hidden from them through their own wilfulness, that heavens were of old, and an earth, having its subsistence out of water and in water, by the word of God, NIV 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. DBY 6 through which [waters] the then world, deluged with water, perished. NIV 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. DBY 7 But the present heavens and the earth by his word are laid up in store, kept for fire unto a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. NIV 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. DBY 8 But let not this one thing be hidden from you, beloved, that one day with [the] Lord [is] as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. NIV 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. DBY 9 [The] Lord does not delay his promise, as some account of delay, but is longsuffering towards you, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. NIV 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. DBY 10 But the day of [the] Lord will come as a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and [the] elements, burning with heat, shall be dissolved, and [the] earth and the works in it shall be burnt up. NIV 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. DBY 11 All these things then being to be dissolved, what ought ye to be in holy conversation and godliness, NIV 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives DBY 12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, by reason of which [the] heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved, and [the] elements, burning with heat, shall melt? NIV 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. DBY 13 But, according to his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness. NIV 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. DBY 14 Wherefore, beloved, as ye wait for these things, be diligent to be found of him in peace, without spot and blameless; NIV 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. DBY 15 and account the longsuffering of our Lord [to be] salvation; according as our beloved brother Paul also has written to you according to the wisdom given to him, NIV 15 Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.
