2 Peter 3:5-15

WNT 5 For they are wilfully blind to the fact that there were heavens which existed of old, and an earth, the latter arising out of water and extending continuously through water, by the command of God; NIV 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. WNT 6 and that, by means of these, the then existing race of men was overwhelmed with water and perished. NIV 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. WNT 7 But the present heavens and the present earth are, by the command of the same God, kept stored up, reserved for fire in preparation for a day of judgement and of destruction for the ungodly. NIV 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. WNT 8 But there is one thing, dear friends, which you must not forget. With the Lord one day resembles a thousand years and a thousand years resemble one day. NIV 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. WNT 9 The Lord is not slow in fulfilling His promise, in the sense in which some men speak of slowness. But He bears patiently with you, His desire being that no one should perish but that all should come to repentance. NIV 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. WNT 10 The day of the Lord will come like a thief--it will be a day on which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, the elements be destroyed in the fierce heat, and the earth and all the works of man be utterly burnt up. NIV 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. WNT 11 Since all these things are thus pre-destined to dissolution, what sort of men ought you to be found to be in all holy living and godly conduct, NIV 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives WNT 12 eagerly looking forward to the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens, all ablaze, will be destroyed, and the elements will melt in the fierce heat? NIV 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. WNT 13 But in accordance with His promise we are expecting new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness will dwell. NIV 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. WNT 14 Therefore, dear friends, since you have these expectations, earnestly seek to be found in His presence, free from blemish or reproach, in peace. NIV 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. WNT 15 And always regard the patient forbearance of our Lord as salvation, as our dear brother Paul also has written to you in virtue of the wisdom granted to him. NIV 15 Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.
