NLT 1 When King David was settled in his palace and the had given him rest from all the surrounding enemies, NIV 1 After the king was settled in his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him, NLT 2 the king summoned Nathan the prophet. “Look,” David said, “I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent!” NIV 2 he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent." NLT 3 Nathan replied to the king, “Go ahead and do whatever you have in mind, for the is with you.” NIV 3 Nathan replied to the king, "Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the LORD is with you." NLT 4 But that same night the said to Nathan, NIV 4 That night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying: NLT 5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the has declared: Are you the one to build a house for me to live in? NIV 5 "Go and tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in? NLT 6 I have never lived in a house, from the day I brought the Israelites out of Egypt until this very day. I have always moved from one place to another with a tent and a Tabernacle as my dwelling. NIV 6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling. NLT 7 Yet no matter where I have gone with the Israelites, I have never once complained to Israel’s tribal leaders, the shepherds of my people Israel. I have never asked them, “Why haven’t you built me a beautiful cedar house?”’ NIV 7 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?" ' NLT 8 “Now go and say to my servant David, ‘This is what the of Heaven’s Armies has declared: I took you from tending sheep in the pasture and selected you to be the leader of my people Israel. NIV 8 "Now then, tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from the pasture and from following the flock to be ruler over my people Israel. NLT 9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have destroyed all your enemies before your eyes. Now I will make your name as famous as anyone who has ever lived on the earth! NIV 9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the earth. NLT 10 And I will provide a homeland for my people Israel, planting them in a secure place where they will never be disturbed. Evil nations won’t oppress them as they’ve done in the past, NIV 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning NLT 11 starting from the time I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. “‘Furthermore, the declares that he will make a house for you—a dynasty of kings! NIV 11 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your enemies. " 'The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you: NLT 12 For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong. NIV 12 When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. NLT 13 He is the one who will build a house—a temple—for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever. NIV 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. NLT 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do. NIV 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings inflicted by men. NLT 15 But my favor will not be taken from him as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from your sight. NIV 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. NLT 16 Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever.’” NIV 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.' " NLT 17 So Nathan went back to David and told him everything the had said in this vision. NIV 17 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation. NLT 18 Then King David went in and sat before the and prayed, “Who am I, O Sovereign , and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? NIV 18 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said: "Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? NLT 19 And now, Sovereign , in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! Do you deal with everyone this way, O Sovereign ? NIV 19 And as if this were not enough in your sight, O Sovereign LORD, you have also spoken about the future of the house of your servant. Is this your usual way of dealing with man, O Sovereign LORD? NLT 20 “What more can I say to you? You know what your servant is really like, Sovereign . NIV 20 "What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Sovereign LORD. NLT 21 Because of your promise and according to your will, you have done all these great things and have made them known to your servant. NIV 21 For the sake of your word and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made it known to your servant. NLT 22 “How great you are, O Sovereign ! There is no one like you. We have never even heard of another God like you! NIV 22 "How great you are, O Sovereign LORD! There is no one like you, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears. NLT 23 What other nation on earth is like your people Israel? What other nation, O God, have you redeemed from slavery to be your own people? You made a great name for yourself when you redeemed your people from Egypt. You performed awesome miracles and drove out the nations and gods that stood in their way. NIV 23 And who is like your people Israel--the one nation on earth that God went out to redeem as a people for himself, and to make a name for himself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations and their gods from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? NLT 24 You made Israel your very own people forever, and you, O , became their God. NIV 24 You have established your people Israel as your very own forever, and you, O LORD, have become their God. NLT 25 “And now, O God, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. Confirm it as a promise that will last forever. NIV 25 "And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised, NLT 26 And may your name be honored forever so that everyone will say, ‘The of Heaven’s Armies is God over Israel!’ And may the house of your servant David continue before you forever. NIV 26 so that your name will be great forever. Then men will say, 'The LORD Almighty is God over Israel!' And the house of your servant David will be established before you. NLT 27 “O of Heaven’s Armies, God of Israel, I have been bold enough to pray this prayer to you because you have revealed all this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you—a dynasty of kings!’ NIV 27 "O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your servant, saying, 'I will build a house for you.' So your servant has found courage to offer you this prayer. NLT 28 For you are God, O Sovereign . Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant. NIV 28 O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant. NLT 29 And now, may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you have spoken, and when you grant a blessing to your servant, O Sovereign , it is an eternal blessing!” NIV 29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever."
