2 Timothy 2:17-26

NAS 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, NIV 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, NAS 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some. NIV 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. NAS 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness." NIV 19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." NAS 20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. NIV 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. NAS 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. NIV 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. NAS 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. NIV 22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. NAS 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. NIV 23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. NAS 24 The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, NIV 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. NAS 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, NIV 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, NAS 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. NIV 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
