3 John 1

GNT 1 From the Elder - To my dear Gaius, whom I truly love. NIV 1 The elder, To my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in the truth. GNT 2 My dear friend, I pray that everything may go well with you and that you may be in good health - as I know you are well in spirit. NIV 2 Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. GNT 3 I was so happy when some Christians arrived and told me how faithful you are to the truth - just as you always live in the truth. NIV 3 It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth. GNT 4 Nothing makes me happier than to hear that my children live in the truth. NIV 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth. GNT 5 My dear friend, you are so faithful in the work you do for other Christians, even when they are strangers. NIV 5 Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. GNT 6 They have spoken to the church here about your love. Please help them to continue their trip in a way that will please God. NIV 6 They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God. GNT 7 For they set out on their trip in the service of Christ without accepting any help from unbelievers. NIV 7 It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. GNT 8 We Christians, then, must help these people, so that we may share in their work for the truth. NIV 8 We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth. GNT 9 I wrote a short letter to the church; but Diotrephes, who likes to be their leader, will not pay any attention to what I say. NIV 9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will have nothing to do with us. GNT 10 When I come, then, I will bring up everything he has done: the terrible things he says about us and the lies he tells! But that is not enough for him; he will not receive the Christians when they come, and even stops those who want to receive them and tries to drive them out of the church! NIV 10 So if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, gossiping maliciously about us. Not satisfied with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church. GNT 11 My dear friend, do not imitate what is bad, but imitate what is good. Whoever does good belongs to God; whoever does what is bad has not seen God. NIV 11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. GNT 12 Everyone speaks well of Demetrius; truth itself speaks well of him. And we add our testimony, and you know that what we say is true. NIV 12 Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone--and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true. GNT 13 I have so much to tell you, but I do not want to do it with pen and ink. NIV 13 I have much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink. GNT 14 I hope to see you soon, and then we will talk personally. NIV 14 I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name. GNT 15 Peace be with you. All your friends send greetings. Greet all our friends personally.
