Jonah 2:1-7

CEB

NIV

1 Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish:
1 From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.
2 "I called out to the LORD in my distress, and he answered me. From the belly of the underworld I cried out for help; you have heard my voice.
2 He said: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry.
3 You had cast me into the depths in the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounds me. All your strong waves and rushing water passed over me.
3 You hurled me into the depths, into the very heart of the seas, and the currents swirled about me; all your waves and breakers swept over me.
4 So I said, ‘I have been driven away from your sight. Will I ever again look on your holy temple?
4 I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’
5 Waters have grasped me to the point of death; the deep surrounds me. Seaweed is wrapped around my head
5 The engulfing waters threatened me,the deep surrounded me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.
6 at the base of the undersea mountains. I have sunk down to the underworld; its bars held me with no end in sight. But you brought me out of the pit.'
6 To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, LORD my God, brought my life up from the pit.
7 When my endurance was weakening, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, to your holy temple.
7 “When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD, and my prayer rose to you, to your holy temple.
