Psalms 137:1-6

CJB

NIV

1 By the rivers of Bavel we sat down and wept as we remembered Tziyon.
1 By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion.
2 We had hung up our lyres on the willows that were there,
2 There on the poplars we hung our harps,
3 when those who had taken us captive asked us to sing them a song; our tormentors demanded joy from us -"Sing us one of the songs from Tziyon!"
3 for there our captors asked us for songs, our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How can we sing a song about ADONAI here on foreign soil?
4 How can we sing the songs of the LORD while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Yerushalayim, may my right hand wither away!
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I fail to remember you, if I fail to count Yerushalayim the greatest of all my joys.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy.
