WBT 3 To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen by them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: NIV 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. WBT 4 And being assembled with [them], commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, [saith he], ye have heard from me. NIV 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. WBT 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence. NIV 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." WBT 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? NIV 6 So when they met together, they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" WBT 7 And he said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. NIV 7 He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. WBT 8 But ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses to me, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth. NIV 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." WBT 9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. WBT 11 Who also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up to heaven? this same Jesus who is taken from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. NIV 11 "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven." WBT 12 Then they returned to Jerusalem, from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey. NIV 12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city. WBT 13 And when they had come in, they went into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James [the son] of Alpheus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas [the brother] of James. NIV 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. WBT 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. NIV 17 he was one of our number and shared in this ministry." WBT 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. NIV 18 (With the reward he got for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. WBT 19 And it was known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; so that that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. NIV 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) WBT 20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell in it: and, His bishopric let another take. NIV 20 "For," said Peter, "it is written in the book of Psalms, " 'May his place be deserted; let there be no one to dwell in it,' and, " 'May another take his place of leadership.' NIV 22 beginning from John's baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection." WBT 23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. NIV 23 So they proposed two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. WBT 24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, who knowest the hearts of all [men], show which of these two thou hast chosen, NIV 24 Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart.
