Acts 10

HNV 1 Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, NIV 1 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment. HNV 2 a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God. NIV 2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly. HNV 3 At about the ninth hour of the day, he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him, and saying to him, "Cornelius!" NIV 3 One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, "Cornelius!" HNV 4 He, fastening his eyes on him, and being frightened, said, "What is it, Lord?" He said to him, "Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God. NIV 4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. "What is it, Lord?" he asked. The angel answered, "Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God. HNV 5 Now send men to Yafo, and get Shim`on, who is surnamed Kefa. NIV 5 Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter. HNV 6 He lodges with one Shim`on, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside." NIV 6 He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea." HNV 7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually. NIV 7 When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. HNV 8 Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Yafo. NIV 8 He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa. HNV 9 Now on the next day as they were on their journey, and got close to the city, Kefa went up on the housetop to pray at about noon. NIV 9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. HNV 10 He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance. NIV 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. HNV 11 He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the eretz, NIV 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. HNV 12 in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the eretz, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky. NIV 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. HNV 13 A voice came to him, "Rise, Kefa, kill and eat!" NIV 13 Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." HNV 14 But Kefa said, "Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean." NIV 14 "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." HNV 15 A voice came to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed, you must not make unholy." NIV 15 The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean." HNV 16 This was done three times, and immediately the vessel was received up into heaven. NIV 16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven. HNV 17 Now while Kefa was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Shim`on's house, stood before the gate, NIV 17 While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon's house was and stopped at the gate. HNV 18 and called and asked whether Shim`on, who was surnamed Kefa, was lodging there. NIV 18 They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there. HNV 19 While Kefa thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men seek you. NIV 19 While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Simon, three men are looking for you. HNV 20 But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them." NIV 20 So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them." HNV 21 Kefa went down to the men, and said, "Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?" NIV 21 Peter went down and said to the men, "I'm the one you're looking for. Why have you come?" HNV 22 They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Yehudim, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say. NIV 22 The men replied, "We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to have you come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say." HNV 23 So he called them in and lodged them. On the next day Kefa arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Yafo accompanied him. NIV 23 Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went along. HNV 24 On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends. NIV 24 The following day he arrived in Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends. HNV 25 When it happened that Kefa entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him. NIV 25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence. HNV 26 But Kefa raised him up, saying, "Stand up! I myself am also a man." NIV 26 But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself." HNV 27 As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together. NIV 27 Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. HNV 28 He said to them, "You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Yehudi to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn't call any man unholy or unclean. NIV 28 He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. HNV 29 Therefore also I came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?" NIV 29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?" HNV 30 Cornelius said, "Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour, and at the ninth hour, I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, NIV 30 Cornelius answered: "Four days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me HNV 31 and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God. NIV 31 and said, 'Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. HNV 32 Send therefore to Yafo, and summon Shim`on, who is surnamed Kefa. He lodges in the house of Shim`on a tanner, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.' NIV 32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.' HNV 33 Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God." NIV 33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us." HNV 34 Kefa opened his mouth and said, "Truly I perceive that God doesn't show favoritism; NIV 34 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism HNV 35 but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him. NIV 35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. HNV 36 The word which he sent to the children of Yisra'el, preaching good news of shalom by Yeshua the Messiah -- he is Lord of all -- NIV 36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. HNV 37 that spoken word you yourselves know, which was proclaimed throughout all Yehudah, beginning from the Galil, after the immersion which Yochanan preached; NIV 37 You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached-- HNV 38 even Yeshua of Natzeret, how God anointed him with the Ruach HaKodesh and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. NIV 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. HNV 39 We are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Yehudim, and in Yerushalayim; whom they also killed, hanging him on a tree. NIV 39 "We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree, HNV 40 God raised him up the third day, and gave him to be revealed, NIV 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. HNV 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. NIV 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen--by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. HNV 42 He charged us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead. NIV 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. HNV 43 All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins." NIV 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." HNV 44 While Kefa was still speaking these words, the Ruach HaKodesh fell on all those who heard the word. NIV 44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. HNV 45 They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Kefa, because the gift of the Ruach HaKodesh was also poured out on the Goyim. NIV 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. HNV 46 For they heard them speak with other languages and magnify God. Then Kefa answered, NIV 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, HNV 47 "Can any man forbid the water, that these who have received the Ruach HaKodesh as well as we should not be immersed?" NIV 47 "Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have." HNV 48 He commanded them to be immersed in the name of Yeshua the Messiah. Then they asked him to stay some days. NIV 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
