Acts 17:22-31

CEB 22 Paul stood up in the middle of the council on Mars Hill and said, “People of Athens, I see that you are very religious in every way. NRS 22 Then Paul stood in front of the Areopagus and said, "Athenians, I see how extremely religious you are in every way. CEB 23 As I was walking through town and carefully observing your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: ‘To an unknown God.' What you worship as unknown, I now proclaim to you. NRS 23 For as I went through the city and looked carefully at the objects of your worship, I found among them an altar with the inscription, "To an unknown god.' What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you. CEB 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, is Lord of heaven and earth. He doesn't live in temples made with human hands. NRS 24 The God who made the world and everything in it, he who is Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in shrines made by human hands, CEB 25 Nor is God served by human hands, as though he needed something, since he is the one who gives life, breath, and everything else. NRS 25 nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mortals life and breath and all things. CEB 26 From one person God created every human nation to live on the whole earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their lands. NRS 26 From one ancestor he made all nations to inhabit the whole earth, and he allotted the times of their existence and the boundaries of the places where they would live, CEB 27 God made the nations so they would seek him, perhaps even reach out to him and find him. In fact, God isn't far away from any of us. NRS 27 so that they would search for God and perhaps grope for him and find him—though indeed he is not far from each one of us. CEB 28 In God we live, move, and exist. As some of your own poets said, ‘We are his offspring.' NRS 28 For "In him we live and move and have our being'; as even some of your own poets have said, "For we too are his offspring.' CEB 29 "Therefore, as God's offspring, we have no need to imagine that the divine being is like a gold, silver, or stone image made by human skill and thought. NRS 29 Since we are God's offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals. CEB 30 God overlooks ignorance of these things in times past, but now directs everyone everywhere to change their hearts and lives. NRS 30 While God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to repent, CEB 31 This is because God has set a day when he intends to judge the world justly by a man he has appointed. God has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead." NRS 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will have the world judged in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead."
