Acts 18:12-17

RSV 12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Acha'ia, the Jews made a united attack upon Paul and brought him before the tribunal, NIV 12 While Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him into court. RSV 13 saying, "This man is persuading men to worship God contrary to the law." NIV 13 "This man," they charged, "is persuading the people to worship God in ways contrary to the law." RSV 14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If it were a matter of wrongdoing or vicious crime, I should have reason to bear with you, O Jews; NIV 14 Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews, "If you Jews were making a complaint about some misdemeanor or serious crime, it would be reasonable for me to listen to you. RSV 15 but since it is a matter of questions about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; I refuse to be a judge of these things." NIV 15 But since it involves questions about words and names and your own law--settle the matter yourselves. I will not be a judge of such things." RSV 16 And he drove them from the tribunal. NIV 16 So he had them ejected from the court. RSV 17 And they all seized Sos'thenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal. But Gallio paid no attention to this. NIV 17 Then they all turned on Sosthenes the synagogue ruler and beat him in front of the court. But Gallio showed no concern whatever.
