Acts 2:14-40

NRS 14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. NIV 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. NRS 18 Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. NRS 19 And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. NRS 23 this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. NIV 23 This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. NRS 24 But God raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power. NIV 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. NRS 26 therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh will live in hope. NIV 27 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. NRS 28 You have made known to me the ways of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.' NIV 28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.' NRS 29 "Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. NIV 29 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. NRS 30 Since he was a prophet, he knew that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. NIV 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. NRS 31 Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying, "He was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh experience corruption.' NIV 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. NRS 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses. NIV 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. NRS 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you both see and hear. NIV 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. NRS 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, "The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, NIV 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand NRS 35 until I make your enemies your footstool." ' NIV 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." ' NRS 36 Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Jesus whom you crucified." NIV 36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." NRS 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" NIV 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" NRS 38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. NIV 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. NRS 39 For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him." NIV 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call." NRS 40 And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation." NIV 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
