Acts 8:5-25

RSV 5 Philip went down to a city of Sama'ria, and proclaimed to them the Christ. NIV 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Christ there. RSV 6 And the multitudes with one accord gave heed to what was said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs which he did. NIV 6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the miraculous signs he did, they all paid close attention to what he said. RSV 7 For unclean spirits came out of many who were possessed, crying with a loud voice; and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. RSV 9 But there was a man named Simon who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the nation of Sama'ria, saying that he himself was somebody great. He boasted that he was someone great, RSV 10 They all gave heed to him, from the least to the greatest, saying, "This man is that power of God which is called Great." NIV 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, "This man is the divine power known as the Great Power." RSV 11 And they gave heed to him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. NIV 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. RSV 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. RSV 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, NIV 18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money RSV 19 saying, "Give me also this power, that any one on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." NIV 19 and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." RSV 20 But Peter said to him, "Your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! NIV 20 Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! RSV 21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. NIV 21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. RSV 22 Repent therefore of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. NIV 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. RSV 23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity." NIV 23 For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin." RSV 24 And Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me." NIV 24 Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me." RSV 25 Now when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans. NIV 25 When they had testified and proclaimed the word of the Lord, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.
