1 »Supongamos que un hombre se casa con una mujer, pero ella no le agrada. Resulta que él encuentra algo reprochable en ella, entonces le escribe una carta de divorcio, se la entrega y la echa de su casa.

If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house,
2 Una vez que ella abandona la casa, queda libre para volver a casarse.

and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man,
3 Sin embargo, si el segundo marido también la desprecia y se divorcia de ella o se muere,

and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies,
4 el primer marido no podrá casarse de nuevo con ella, porque ha quedado impura. Sería un acto detestable a los ojos del Señor<br />. No debes manchar de culpa la tierra que el Señor<br /> tu Dios te da como preciada posesión.

then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled. That would be detestable in the eyes of the LORD. Do not bring sin upon the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.
5 »A un hombre recién casado no se le debe reclutar para el ejército ni se le debe asignar alguna otra responsabilidad oficial. Debe estar libre para pasar un año en su casa, haciendo feliz a la mujer con la que se casó.

If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.
6 »Está mal tomar un conjunto de piedras de molino —ni siquiera la piedra de arriba— como garantía por un préstamo que hayas hecho, porque el dueño las necesita para ganarse la vida.

Do not take a pair of millstones—not even the upper one—as security for a debt, because that would be taking a person’s livelihood as security.
7 »Si alguno secuestra a otro israelita y lo trata como esclavo o lo vende, el criminal deberá morir. De ese modo, limpiarás la maldad que haya en medio de ti.

If someone is caught kidnapping a fellow Israelite and treating or selling them as a slave, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.
8 »En todos los casos relacionados con enfermedades graves de la piel,<br /> asegúrate de seguir las instrucciones de los sacerdotes levitas; obedece todos los mandatos que les di.

In cases of defiling skin diseases, be very careful to do exactly as the Levitical priests instruct you. You must follow carefully what I have commanded them.
9 Acuérdate de lo que el Señor<br /> tu Dios le hizo a Miriam cuando saliste de Egipto.

Remember what the LORD your God did to Miriam along the way after you came out of Egypt.
10 »Si le prestas algo a tu vecino, no entres en su casa para tomar el objeto que tiene que darte como garantía.

When you make a loan of any kind to your neighbor, do not go into their house to get what is offered to you as a pledge.
11 Debes esperar afuera hasta que él entre y te lo traiga.

Stay outside and let the neighbor to whom you are making the loan bring the pledge out to you.
12 Si tu vecino es pobre y te da su abrigo como garantía por un préstamo, no retengas la prenda durante la noche.

If the neighbor is poor, do not go to sleep with their pledge in your possession.
13 Devuélvela a su dueño antes de que caiga el sol, para que pueda abrigarse durante la noche y te bendiga; y el Señor<br /> tu Dios te considerará justo.

Return their cloak by sunset so that your neighbor may sleep in it. Then they will thank you, and it will be regarded as a righteous act in the sight of the LORD your God.
14 »Jamás te aproveches de los obreros pobres y desamparados, ya sean hermanos israelitas o extranjeros que vivan en tu ciudad.

Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns.
15 Debes pagarles lo que les corresponde al final del día, antes de que caiga el sol, porque son pobres y cuentan con esa paga para vivir. De lo contrario, ellos podrían clamar al Señor<br /> en tu contra, y tú serías culpable de pecado.

Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
16 »Los padres no deben morir por los pecados de los hijos ni los hijos deben morir por los pecados de los padres. Los que merezcan la muerte serán ejecutados por sus propios delitos.

Parents are not to be put to death for their children, nor children put to death for their parents; each will die for their own sin.
17 »Debes actuar con justicia con los huérfanos y con los extranjeros que vivan en tu tierra, y nunca aceptes la ropa de una viuda como garantía por su deuda.

Do not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, or take the cloak of the widow as a pledge.
18 Recuerda siempre que fuiste esclavo en Egipto y que el Señor<br /> tu Dios te rescató de la esclavitud. Es por eso que te doy este mandato.

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the LORD your God redeemed you from there. That is why I command you to do this.
19 »Cuando estés juntando la cosecha y olvides un atado de grano en el campo, no regreses a buscarlo. Déjalo allí para los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas. Entonces el Señor<br /> tu Dios te bendecirá en todo lo que hagas.

When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
20 Cuando sacudas los olivos para que caigan las aceitunas, no pases por las mismas ramas dos veces. Deja las aceitunas que quedan en el árbol para los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas.

When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow.
21 Cuando coseches las uvas de tu viñedo, no repases las vides. Deja los racimos que quedan para los extranjeros, los huérfanos y las viudas.

When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow.
22 Recuerda que fuiste esclavo en la tierra de Egipto. Es por eso que te doy este mandato.

Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. That is why I command you to do this.
