Deuteronomy 10

CJB 1 "At that time ADONAI said to me, 'Cut yourself two stone tablets like the first ones, come up to me on the mountain, and make yourself an ark of wood. NIV 1 At that time the LORD said to me, "Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain. Also make a wooden chest. CJB 2 I will inscribe on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke; and you are to put them in the ark.' NIV 2 I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the chest." CJB 3 So I made an ark of acacia-wood and cut two stone tablets like the first, then climbed the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. NIV 3 So I made the ark out of acacia wood and chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. CJB 4 He inscribed the tablets with the same inscription as before, the Ten Words which ADONAI proclaimed to you from the fire on the mountain the day of the assembly; and ADONAI gave them to me. NIV 4 The LORD wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me. CJB 5 I turned, came down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made; and there they remain; as ADONAI ordered me. NIV 5 Then I came back down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, as the LORD commanded me, and they are there now. CJB 6 "The people of Isra'el traveled from the wells of B'nei-Ya'akan to Moserah, where Aharon died and was buried; and El'azar his son took his place, serving in the office of cohen. NIV 6 (The Israelites traveled from the wells of the Jaakanites to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest. CJB 7 From there they traveled to Gudgod, and from Gudgod to Yotvatah, a region with running streams. NIV 7 From there they traveled to Gudgodah and on to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water. CJB 8 At that time ADONAI set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark for the covenant of ADONAI and to stand before ADONAI to serve him and to bless in his name, as they still do today. NIV 8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today. CJB 9 This is why Levi has no share or inheritance with his brothers; ADONAI is his inheritance, as ADONAI your God had said to him. NIV 9 That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance, as the LORD your God told them.) CJB 10 "I stayed on the mountain forty days and nights, as previously; and ADONAI listened to me that time too -ADONAI would not destroy you. NIV 10 Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and nights, as I did the first time, and the LORD listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you. CJB 11 Then ADONAI said to me, 'Get up, and go on your way at the head of the people, so that they can enter and take possession of the land I swore to their ancestors that I would give them.' NIV 11 "Go," the LORD said to me, "and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land that I swore to their fathers to give them." CJB 12 "So now, Isra'el, all that ADONAI your God asks from you is to fear ADONAI your God, follow all his ways, love him and serve ADONAI your God with all your heart and all your being; NIV 12 And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, CJB 13 to obey, for your own good, the mitzvot and regulations of ADONAI which I am giving you today. NIV 13 and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good? CJB 14 See, the sky, the heaven beyond the sky, the earth and everything on it all belong to ADONAI your God. NIV 14 To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. CJB 15 Only ADONAI took enough pleasure in your ancestors to love them and choose their descendants after them -yourselves -above all peoples, as he still does today. NIV 15 Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today. CJB 16 Therefore, circumcise the foreskin of your heart; and don't be stiffnecked any longer! NIV 16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer. CJB 17 For ADONAI your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, mighty and awesome God, who has no favorites and accepts no bribes. NIV 17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. CJB 18 He secures justice for the orphan and the widow; he loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing. NIV 18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. CJB 19 Therefore you are to love the foreigner, since you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. NIV 19 And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt. CJB 20 You are to fear ADONAI your God, serve him, cling to him and swear by his name. NIV 20 Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name. CJB 21 He is your praise, and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things, which you have seen with your own eyes. NIV 21 He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes. CJB 22 Your ancestors went down into Egypt with only seventy people, but now ADONAI your God has made your numbers as many as the stars in the sky! NIV 22 Your forefathers who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
