Deuteronomy 11

NIRV 1 Love the LORD your God. Do what he requires. Always obey his rules, laws and commands. NIV 1 Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always. NIRV 2 Remember today that your children weren't the ones the LORD your God taught and trained. They didn't see his majesty. They weren't in Egypt when he reached out his mighty hand and powerful arm. NIV 2 Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the LORD your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; NIRV 3 They didn't see the miraculous signs and the other things he did in Egypt. They didn't see what he did to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to his whole country. NIV 3 the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; NIRV 4 They weren't there when he destroyed the army of Egypt and its horses and chariots. The LORD swept the waters of the Red Sea over the Egyptians while they were chasing you. He wiped them out forever. NIV 4 what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the LORD brought lasting ruin on them. NIRV 5 Your children didn't see what he did for you in the desert before you arrived here. NIV 5 It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the desert until you arrived at this place, NIRV 6 They didn't see what he did to Dathan and Abiram, who were the sons of Eliab. Eliab was from the tribe of Reuben. The earth opened its mouth right in the middle of the Israelite camp. It swallowed up Dathan and Abiram. It swallowed them up together with their families, tents and every living thing that belonged to them. NIV 6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them. NIRV 7 But with your own eyes you saw all of the great things the LORD has done. NIV 7 But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the LORD has done. NIRV 8 So obey all of the commands I'm giving you today. Then you will be strong enough to go in and take over the land. You will go across the Jordan River and take it as your own. NIV 8 Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, NIRV 9 You will live in the land for a long time. It's the land the LORD promised to give to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and their children after them. He took an oath when he made that promise. It's a land that has plenty of milk and honey. NIV 9 and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your forefathers to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey. NIRV 10 You will enter it and take it over. It isn't like the land of Egypt. That's where you came from. You planted your seeds there. You had to water them, just as you have to water a vegetable garden. NIV 10 The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden. NIRV 11 But you will soon go across the Jordan River. The land you are going to take over has mountains and valleys in it. It drinks rain from heaven. NIV 11 But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. NIRV 12 It's a land the LORD your God takes care of. His eyes always look on it with favor. He watches over it from the beginning of the year to its end. NIV 12 It is a land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end. NIRV 13 So be faithful. Obey the commands the LORD your God is giving you today. Love him. Serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. NIV 13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today--to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul-- NIRV 14 Then the LORD will send rain on your land at the right time. He'll send rain in the fall and in the spring. You will be able to gather your grain. You will also be able to make olive oil and fresh wine. NIV 14 then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil. NIRV 15 He'll provide grass in the fields for your cattle. You will have plenty to eat. NIV 15 I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied. NIRV 16 But be careful. Don't let anyone tempt you to do something wrong. Don't turn away and worship other gods. Don't bow down to them. NIV 16 Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them. NIRV 17 If you do, the LORD's anger will burn against you. He'll close up the sky. It won't rain. The ground won't produce its crops. Soon you will die. You won't live to enjoy the good land the LORD is giving you. NIV 17 Then the LORD's anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the LORD is giving you. NIRV 18 So keep my words in your hearts and minds. Write them down and tie them on your hands as a reminder. Also tie them on your foreheads. NIV 18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. NIRV 19 Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home. Talk about them when you walk along the road. Speak about them when you go to bed. And speak about them when you get up. NIV 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. NIRV 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses. Also write them on your gates. NIV 20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, NIRV 21 Then you and your children will live for a long time in the land. The LORD took an oath and promised to give the land to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Your family line will continue as long as the heavens remain above the earth. NIV 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth. NIRV 22 So be careful. Obey all of the commands I'm giving you to follow. Love the LORD your God. Live exactly as he wants you to live. Remain true to him. NIV 22 If you carefully observe all these commands I am giving you to follow--to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways and to hold fast to him-- NIRV 23 Then the LORD will drive out all of the nations to make room for you. They are larger and stronger than you are. But you will take their land. NIV 23 then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations larger and stronger than you. NIRV 24 Every place you walk on will belong to you. Your territory will go all the way from the desert to Lebanon. It will go from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea. NIV 24 Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the western sea. NIRV 25 No man will be able to stand up against you. The LORD your God will throw the whole land into a panic because of you. He'll do it everywhere you go, just as he promised you. NIV 25 No man will be able to stand against you. The LORD your God, as he promised you, will put the terror and fear of you on the whole land, wherever you go. NIRV 26 Listen to me. I'm setting a blessing and a curse in front of you today. NIV 26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse-- NIRV 27 I'm giving you the commands of the LORD your God today. You will be blessed if you obey them. NIV 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today; NIRV 28 But you will be cursed if you don't obey them. So don't turn away from the path I'm now commanding you to take. Don't worship other gods. You haven't known anything about them before. NIV 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the LORD your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known. NIRV 29 The LORD your God will bring you into the land to take it over. When he does, you must announce the blessings from Mount Gerizim. You must announce the curses from Mount Ebal. NIV 29 When the LORD your God has brought you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim on Mount Gerizim the blessings, and on Mount Ebal the curses. NIRV 30 As you know, those mountains are across the Jordan River. They are beyond the road that runs along the west side of the Jordan. They are near the large trees of Moreh. The mountains are in the territory of the Canaanites, who live in the Arabah Valley near Gilgal. NIV 30 As you know, these mountains are across the Jordan, west of the road, toward the setting sun, near the great trees of Moreh, in the territory of those Canaanites living in the Arabah in the vicinity of Gilgal. NIRV 31 You are about to go across the Jordan River. You will enter the land and take it over. The LORD your God is giving it to you. You will take it over and live there. NIV 31 You are about to cross the Jordan to enter and take possession of the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you have taken it over and are living there, NIRV 32 When you do, make sure you obey all of the rules and laws I'm giving you today. NIV 32 be sure that you obey all the decrees and laws I am setting before you today.
