Ecclesiastes 3:16-22

MSG 16 I took another good look at what's going on: The very place of judgment - corrupt! NIV 16 And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment--wickedness was there, in the place of justice--wickedness was there. MSG 17 The place of righteousness - corrupt! I said to myself, "God will judge righteous and wicked." There's a right time for every thing, every deed - and there's no getting around it. NIV 17 I thought in my heart, "God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed." MSG 18 I said to myself regarding the human race, "God's testing the lot of us, showing us up as nothing but animals." NIV 18 I also thought, "As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. MSG 19 Humans and animals come to the same end - humans die, animals die. We all breathe the same air. So there's really no advantage in being human. None. Everything's smoke. NIV 19 Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. MSG 20 We all end up in the same place - we all came from dust, we all end up as dust. NIV 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. MSG 21 Nobody knows for sure that the human spirit rises to heaven or that the animal spirit sinks into the earth. NIV 21 Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?" MSG 22 So I made up my mind that there's nothing better for us men and women than to have a good time in whatever we do - that's our lot. Who knows if there's anything else to life? NIV 22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?
