Ephesians 2

CSB 1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins NIV 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, CSB 2 in which you previously walked according to this worldly age, according to the ruler of the atmospheric domain, the spirit now working in the disobedient. NIV 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. CSB 3 We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and by nature we were children under wrath, as the others were also. NIV 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. CSB 4 But God, who is abundant in mercy, because of His great love that He had for us, NIV 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, CSB 5 made us alive with the Messiah even though we were dead in trespasses. By grace you are saved! NIV 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. CSB 6 He also raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavens, in Christ Jesus, NIV 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, CSB 7 so that in the coming ages He might display the immeasurable riches of His grace in [His] kindness to us in Christ Jesus. NIV 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. CSB 8 For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God's gift- NIV 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- CSB 9 not from works, so that no one can boast. NIV 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. CSB 10 For we are His creation-created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them. NIV 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. CSB 11 So then, remember that at one time you were Gentiles in the flesh-called "the uncircumcised" by those called "the circumcised," done by hand in the flesh. NIV 11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)-- CSB 12 At that time you were without the Messiah, excluded from the citizenship of Israel, and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, with no hope and without God in the world. NIV 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. CSB 13 But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood of the Messiah. NIV 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. CSB 14 For He is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In His flesh, NIV 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, CSB 15 He did away with the law of the commandments in regulations, so that He might create in Himself one new man from the two, resulting in peace. NIV 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, CSB 16 [He did this so] that He might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross and put the hostility to death by it. NIV 16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. CSB 17 When [Christ] came, He proclaimed the good news of peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. NIV 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. CSB 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. NIV 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. CSB 19 So then you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God's household, NIV 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, CSB 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. NIV 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. CSB 21 The whole building is being fitted together in Him and is growing into a holy sanctuary in the Lord, NIV 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. CSB 22 in whom you also are being built together for God's dwelling in the Spirit. NIV 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
