Ephesians 2

YLT 1 Also you -- being dead in the trespasses and the sins, NIV 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, YLT 2 in which once ye did walk according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience, NIV 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. YLT 3 among whom also we all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath -- as also the others, NIV 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. YLT 4 and God, being rich in kindness, because of His great love with which He loved us, NIV 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, YLT 5 even being dead in the trespasses, did make us to live together with the Christ, (by grace ye are having been saved,) NIV 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. YLT 6 and did raise [us] up together, and did seat [us] together in the heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus, NIV 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, YLT 7 that He might show, in the ages that are coming, the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus, NIV 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. YLT 8 for by grace ye are having been saved, through faith, and this not of you -- of God the gift, NIV 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- YLT 9 not of works, that no one may boast; NIV 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. YLT 10 for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk. NIV 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. YLT 11 Wherefore, remember, that ye [were] once the nations in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that called Circumcision in the flesh made by hands, NIV 11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)-- YLT 12 that ye were at that time apart from Christ, having been alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope, and without God, in the world; NIV 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. YLT 13 and now, in Christ Jesus, ye being once afar off became nigh in the blood of the Christ, NIV 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. YLT 14 for he is our peace, who did make both one, and the middle wall of the enclosure did break down, NIV 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, YLT 15 the enmity in his flesh, the law of the commands in ordinances having done away, that the two he might create in himself into one new man, making peace, NIV 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, YLT 16 and might reconcile both in one body to God through the cross, having slain the enmity in it, NIV 16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. YLT 17 and having come, he did proclaim good news -- peace to you -- the far-off and the nigh, NIV 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. YLT 18 because through him we have the access -- we both -- in one Spirit unto the Father. NIV 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. YLT 19 Then, therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens of the saints, and of the household of God, NIV 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, YLT 20 being built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being chief corner-[stone], NIV 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. YLT 21 in whom all the building fitly framed together doth increase to an holy sanctuary in the Lord, NIV 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. YLT 22 in whom also ye are builded together, for a habitation of God in the Spirit. NIV 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
