Ephesians 2

NAS 1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, NIV 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, NAS 2 in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. NIV 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. NAS 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. NIV 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. NAS 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, NIV 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, NAS 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved ), NIV 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. NAS 6 and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, NIV 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, NAS 7 so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. NIV 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. NAS 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; NIV 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- NAS 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. NIV 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. NAS 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. NIV 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. NAS 11 Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called " Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," which is performed in the flesh by human hands - NIV 11 Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (that done in the body by the hands of men)-- NAS 12 remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. NIV 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. NAS 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. NIV 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. NAS 14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, NIV 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, NAS 15 by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, NIV 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, NAS 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. NIV 16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. NAS 17 AND HE CAME AND PREACHED PEACE TO YOU WHO WERE FAR AWAY, AND PEACE TO THOSE WHO WERE NEAR; NIV 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. NAS 18 for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father. NIV 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. NAS 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God's household, NIV 19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, NAS 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, NIV 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. NAS 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord , NIV 21 In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. NAS 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. NIV 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
