Ephesians 4:17-32

CEB 17 So I'm telling you this, and I insist on it in the Lord: you shouldn't live your life like the Gentiles anymore. They base their lives on pointless thinking, NIV 17 So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. CEB 18 and they are in the dark in their reasoning. They are disconnected from God's life because of their ignorance and their closed hearts. NIV 18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. CEB 19 They are people who lack all sense of right and wrong, and who have turned themselves over to doing whatever feels good and to practicing every sort of corruption along with greed. NIV 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. CEB 20 But you didn't learn that sort of thing from Christ. NIV 20 You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. CEB 21 Since you really listened to him and you were taught how the truth is in Jesus, NIV 21 Surely you heard of him and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. CEB 22 change the former way of life that was part of the person you once were, corrupted by deceitful desires. NIV 22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; CEB 23 Instead, renew the thinking in your mind by the Spirit NIV 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; CEB 24 and clothe yourself with the new person created according to God's image in justice and true holiness. NIV 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. CEB 25 Therefore, after you have gotten rid of lying, Each of you must tell the truth to your neighbor because we are parts of each other in the same body. NIV 25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. CEB 26 Be angry without sinning. Don't let the sun set on your anger. NIV 26 "In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, CEB 27 Don't provide an opportunity for the devil. NIV 27 and do not give the devil a foothold. CEB 28 Thieves should no longer steal. Instead, they should go to work, using their hands to do good so that they will have something to share with whoever is in need. NIV 28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. CEB 29 Don't let any foul words come out of your mouth. Only say what is helpful when it is needed for building up the community so that it benefits those who hear what you say. NIV 29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. CEB 30 Don't make the Holy Spirit of God unhappy—you were sealed by him for the day of redemption. NIV 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. CEB 31 Put aside all bitterness, losing your temper, anger, shouting, and slander, along with every other evil. NIV 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. CEB 32 Be kind, compassionate, and forgiving to each other, in the same way God forgave you in Christ. NIV 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
