Ephesians 6

GNT 1 Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents, for this is the right thing to do. NIV 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. GNT 2 "Respect your father and mother" is the first commandment that has a promise added: NIV 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- GNT 3 "so that all may go well with you, and you may live a long time in the land." NIV 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." GNT 4 Parents, do not treat your children in such a way as to make them angry. Instead, raise them with Christian discipline and instruction. NIV 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. GNT 5 Slaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling; and do it with a sincere heart, as though you were serving Christ. NIV 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. GNT 6 Do this not only when they are watching you, because you want to gain their approval; but with all your heart do what God wants, as slaves of Christ. NIV 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. GNT 7 Do your work as slaves cheerfully, as though you served the Lord, and not merely human beings. NIV 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, GNT 8 Remember that the Lord will reward each of us, whether slave or free, for the good work we do. NIV 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. GNT 9 Masters, behave in the same way toward your slaves and stop using threats. Remember that you and your slaves belong to the same Master in heaven, who judges everyone by the same standard. NIV 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. GNT 10 Finally, build up your strength in union with the Lord and by means of his mighty power. NIV 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. GNT 11 Put on all the armor that God gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the Devil's evil tricks. NIV 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. GNT 12 For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age. NIV 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. GNT 13 So put on God's armor now! Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy's attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground. NIV 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. GNT 14 So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist, with righteousness as your breastplate, NIV 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, GNT 15 and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. NIV 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. GNT 16 At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One. NIV 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. GNT 17 And accept salvation as a helmet, and the word of God as the sword which the Spirit gives you. NIV 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. GNT 18 Do all this in prayer, asking for God's help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God's people. NIV 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. GNT 19 And pray also for me, that God will give me a message when I am ready to speak, so that I may speak boldly and make known the gospel's secret. NIV 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, GNT 20 For the sake of this gospel I am an ambassador, though now I am in prison. Pray that I may be bold in speaking about the gospel as I should. NIV 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. GNT 21 Tychicus, our dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord's work, will give you all the news about me, so that you may know how I am getting along. NIV 21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. GNT 22 That is why I am sending him to you - to tell you how all of us are getting along and to encourage you. NIV 22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you. GNT 23 May God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give to all Christians peace and love with faith. NIV 23 Peace to the brothers, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. GNT 24 May God's grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with undying love. NIV 24 Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
