LEB 2 "Honor your father and mother" (which is the first commandment with a promise), NIV 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- LEB 3 "in order that it may be well with you, and you may {live a long time} on the earth." NIV 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." LEB 4 And fathers, do not make your children angry, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. NIV 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. LEB 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, as to Christ, NIV 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. LEB 6 not {while being watched}, as people pleasers, but as slaves of Christ doing the will of God from the heart, NIV 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. LEB 7 serving with goodwill as to the Lord and not to people, NIV 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, LEB 8 [because you] know that each one of you, whatever good he should do, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether slave or free. LEB 9 And masters, do the same [things] to them, giving up threats, knowing that both their Lord and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with him. LEB 12 because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual [forces] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. NIV 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. LEB 13 Because of this, take up the full armor of God, in order that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand. LEB 14 Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness, NIV 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, LEB 15 and binding [shoes] under your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace, NIV 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. LEB 16 in everything taking up the shield of faith, with which you are able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one, NIV 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. LEB 17 and receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, NIV 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. LEB 18 with all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and to this [end] being alert with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints, NIV 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
