Ephesians 6:2-12

NLT 2 "Honor your father and mother." This is the first of the Ten Commandments that ends with a promise. NIV 2 "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise-- NLT 3 And this is the promise: If you honor your father and mother, "you will live a long life, full of blessing." NIV 3 "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." NLT 4 And now a word to you fathers. Don't make your children angry by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction approved by the Lord. NIV 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. NLT 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. NIV 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. NLT 6 Work hard, but not just to please your masters when they are watching. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. NIV 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. NLT 7 Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. NIV 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, NLT 8 Remember that the Lord will reward each one of us for the good we do, whether we are slaves or free. NIV 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free. NLT 9 And in the same way, you masters must treat your slaves right. Don't threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites. NIV 9 And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him. NLT 10 A final word: Be strong with the Lord's mighty power. NIV 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. NLT 11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. NIV 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. NLT 12 For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms. NIV 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
