LEB 1 And God spoke all these words, saying, NIV 1 And God spoke all these words: LEB 2 "I [am] Yahweh, your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves. NIV 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. LEB 3 "There shall be for you no other gods before me. NIV 3 "You shall have no other gods before me. LEB 4 "You shall not make for yourself a divine image [with] any form that [is] in the heavens above or that [is] in the earth below or that [is] in the water below the earth. NIV 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. LEB 5 You will not bow down to them, and you will not serve them, because I [am] Yahweh your God, a jealous God, punishing [the] guilt of [the] parents on the children on [the] third and on [the] fourth [generations] of those hating me, NIV 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, LEB 6 and showing loyal love to thousands [of generations] of those loving me and of those keeping my commandments. NIV 6 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. LEB 7 "You shall not {misuse the name of Yahweh your God}, because Yahweh will not leave unpunished [anyone] who {misuses his name}. NIV 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. LEB 9 Six days you will work, and you will do all your work. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. LEB 11 because [in] six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that [is] in them, and on the seventh day he rested. Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day and consecrated it. NIV 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. LEB 16 "You shall not testify against your neighbor [with] a false witness. NIV 16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. LEB 17 "You shall not covet the house of your neighbor; you will not covet the wife of your neighbor or his male servant or his female servant or his ox or his donkey or anything that [is] your neighbor's." NIV 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." LEB 18 And all the people [were] seeing the thunder and the lightning and the sound of the ram's horn and the mountain smoking, and the people saw, and they trembled, and they stood at a distance. NIV 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance LEB 19 And they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will listen, but let not God speak with us, lest we die." NIV 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die." LEB 20 And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that his fear will be before you so that you do not sin." NIV 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." LEB 21 And the people stood at a distance, and Moses approached the very thick cloud where God was. NIV 21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was. LEB 22 And Yahweh said to Moses, "Thus you will say to the {Israelites}, 'You yourselves have seen that I have spoken to you from the heavens. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. LEB 25 And if you make an altar of stones for me, you will not build them [as] hewn stone, because if you use your chisel on it, you have defiled it. NIV 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. LEB 26 You will not go up with steps onto my altar, that your nakedness not be exposed on it.' NIV 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'
