YLT 1 `And God speaketh all these words, saying, NIV 1 And God spoke all these words: YLT 2 I [am] Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants. NIV 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. YLT 3 `Thou hast no other Gods before Me. NIV 3 "You shall have no other gods before me. YLT 4 `Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which [is] in the heavens above, or which [is] in the earth beneath, or which [is] in the waters under the earth. NIV 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. YLT 5 Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, [am] a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third [generation], and on the fourth, of those hating Me, NIV 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, YLT 6 and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands. NIV 6 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. YLT 7 `Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing. NIV 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. YLT 8 `Remember the Sabbath-day to sanctify it; NIV 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. YLT 9 six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work, NIV 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, YLT 10 and the seventh day [is] a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, -- NIV 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. YLT 11 for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that [is] in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it. NIV 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. YLT 12 `Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days are prolonged on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee. NIV 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. YLT 13 `Thou dost not murder. NIV 13 "You shall not murder. YLT 14 `Thou dost not commit adultery. NIV 14 "You shall not commit adultery. YLT 15 `Thou dost not steal. NIV 15 "You shall not steal. YLT 16 `Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony. NIV 16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. YLT 17 `Thou dost not desire the house of thy neighbour, thou dost not desire the wife of thy neighbour, or his man-servant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which [is] thy neighbour's.' NIV 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor." YLT 18 And all the people are seeing the voices, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and the people see, and move, and stand afar off, NIV 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance YLT 19 and say unto Moses, `Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.' NIV 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die." YLT 20 And Moses saith unto the people, `Fear not, for to try you hath God come, and in order that His fear may be before your faces -- that ye sin not.' NIV 20 Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning." YLT 21 And the people stand afar off, and Moses hath drawn nigh unto the thick darkness where God [is]. NIV 21 The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was. YLT 22 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel: Ye -- ye have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you; NIV 22 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites this: 'You have seen for yourselves that I have spoken to you from heaven: YLT 23 ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves. NIV 23 Do not make any gods to be alongside me; do not make for yourselves gods of silver or gods of gold. YLT 24 `An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee. NIV 24 " 'Make an altar of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you. YLT 25 `And if an altar of stones thou dost make to Me, thou dost not build them of hewn work; when thy tool thou hast waved over it, then thou dost pollute it; NIV 25 If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. YLT 26 neither dost thou go up by steps on Mine altar, that thy nakedness be not revealed upon it. NIV 26 And do not go up to my altar on steps, lest your nakedness be exposed on it.'
