Exodus 20:1-17

NLT 1 Then God gave the people all these instructions : NIV 1 And God spoke all these words: NLT 2 “I am the your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. NIV 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. NLT 3 “You must not have any other god but me. NIV 3 "You shall have no other gods before me. NLT 4 “You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. NIV 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. NLT 5 You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me. NIV 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, NLT 6 But I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. NIV 6 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. NLT 7 “You must not misuse the name of the your God. The will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. NIV 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. NLT 8 “Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. NIV 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. NLT 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, NIV 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, NLT 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. NIV 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. NLT 11 For in six days the made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. NIV 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. NLT 12 “Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the your God is giving you.
