NLT 1 Then God instructed the people as follows: NIV 1 And God spoke all these words: NLT 2 "I am the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery in Egypt." NIV 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. NLT 3 "Do not worship any other gods besides me." NIV 3 "You shall have no other gods before me. NLT 4 "Do not make idols of any kind, whether in the shape of birds or animals or fish. NIV 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. NLT 5 You must never worship or bow down to them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not share your affection with any other god! I do not leave unpunished the sins of those who hate me, but I punish the children for the sins of their parents to the third and fourth generations. NIV 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, NLT 6 But I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands, even for a thousand generations." NIV 6 but showing love to a thousand [ generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments. NLT 7 "Do not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name." NIV 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. NLT 8 "Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. NIV 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. NLT 9 Six days a week are set apart for your daily duties and regular work, NIV 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, NLT 10 but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. On that day no one in your household may do any kind of work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. NIV 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. NLT 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; then he rested on the seventh day. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy." NIV 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. NIV 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. NLT 13 "Do not murder." NIV 13 "You shall not murder.
