Exodus 24

NIRV 1 The LORD said to Moses, "You and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and 70 of the elders of Israel must come up to me. Do not come close when you worship. NIV 1 Then he said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel. You are to worship at a distance, NIRV 2 Only Moses can come close to me. The others must not come near. And the people may not go up with him." NIV 2 but Moses alone is to approach the LORD; the others must not come near. And the people may not come up with him." NIRV 3 Moses went and told the people all of the LORD's words and laws. They answered with one voice. They said, "We will do everything the LORD has told us to do." NIRV 4 Then Moses wrote down everything the LORD had said. Moses got up early the next morning. He built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He set up 12 stone pillars. NIV 12 The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands I have written for their instruction." NIRV 13 Then Moses and Joshua, his helper, started out. Moses went up on the mountain of God. NIV 13 Then Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. NIRV 14 He said to the elders, "Wait for us here until we come back to you. Aaron and Hur are with you. Anyone who has a problem can go to them." Then the cloud covered it. NIV 15 When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it, NIRV 16 The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. The cloud covered the mountain for six days. On the seventh day the LORD called out to Moses from inside the cloud. NIV 16 and the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai. For six days the cloud covered the mountain, and on the seventh day the LORD called to Moses from within the cloud. NIRV 17 The people of Israel saw the glory of the Lord. It looked like a fire burning on top of the mountain. NIV 17 To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. NIRV 18 Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. He stayed on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights. NIV 18 Then Moses entered the cloud as he went on up the mountain. And he stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
