Exodus 29

MSG 1 "This is the ceremony for consecrating them as priests. Take a young bull and two rams, healthy and without defects. NIV 1 "This is what you are to do to consecrate them, so they may serve me as priests: Take a young bull and two rams without defect. MSG 2 Using fine wheat flour but no yeast make bread and cakes mixed with oil and wafers spread with oil. NIV 2 And from fine wheat flour, without yeast, make bread, and cakes mixed with oil, and wafers spread with oil. MSG 3 Place them in a basket and carry them along with the bull and the two rams. NIV 3 Put them in a basket and present them in it--along with the bull and the two rams. MSG 4 Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. NIV 4 Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. MSG 5 "Then take the vestments and dress Aaron in the tunic, the robe of the Ephod, the Ephod, and the Breastpiece, belting the Ephod on him with the embroidered waistband. MSG 8 Then bring his sons, put tunics on them NIV 8 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics MSG 9 and gird them with sashes, both Aaron and his sons, and set hats on them. Their priesthood is upheld by law and is permanent. NIV 9 and put headbands on them. Then tie sashes on Aaron and his sons. The priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance. In this way you shall ordain Aaron and his sons. MSG 10 Bring the bull to the Tent of Meeting. Aaron and his sons will place their hands on the head of the bull. NIV 10 "Bring the bull to the front of the Tent of Meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. MSG 11 Then you will slaughter the bull in the presence of God at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. NIV 11 Slaughter it in the LORD's presence at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. MSG 12 Take some of the bull's blood and smear it on the horns of the Altar with your finger; pour the rest of the blood on the base of the Altar. NIV 12 Take some of the bull's blood and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger, and pour out the rest of it at the base of the altar. MSG 13 Next take all the fat that covers the innards, fat from around the liver and the two kidneys, and burn it on the Altar. NIV 13 Then take all the fat around the inner parts, the covering of the liver, and both kidneys with the fat on them, and burn them on the altar. MSG 14 But the flesh of the bull, including its hide and dung, you will burn up outside the camp. It is an Absolution-Offering. NIV 14 But burn the bull's flesh and its hide and its offal outside the camp. It is a sin offering. MSG 15 "Then take one of the rams. Have Aaron and his sons place their hands on the head of the ram. NIV 15 "Take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. MSG 16 Slaughter the ram and take its blood and throw it against the Altar, all around. NIV 16 Slaughter it and take the blood and sprinkle it against the altar on all sides. MSG 17 Cut the ram into pieces; wash its innards and legs, then gather the pieces and its head NIV 17 Cut the ram into pieces and wash the inner parts and the legs, putting them with the head and the other pieces. MSG 18 and burn the whole ram on the Altar. It is a Whole-Burnt-Offering to God, a pleasant fragrance, an offering by fire to God. NIV 18 Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the LORD, a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire. MSG 19 "Then take the second ram. Have Aaron and his sons place their hands on the ram's head. NIV 19 "Take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. MSG 20 Slaughter the ram. Take some of its blood and rub it on Aaron's right earlobe and on the right earlobes of his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet. Sprinkle the rest of the blood against all sides of the Altar. NIV 20 Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then sprinkle blood against the altar on all sides. MSG 21 Then take some of the blood that is on the Altar, mix it with some of the anointing oil, and splash it on Aaron and his clothes and on his sons and their clothes so that Aaron and his clothes and his sons and his sons' clothes will be made holy. NIV 21 And take some of the blood on the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated. MSG 22 "Take the fat from the ram, the fat tail, the fat that covers the innards, the long lobe of the liver, the two kidneys and the fat on them, and the right thigh: this is the ordination ram. NIV 22 "Take from this ram the fat, the fat tail, the fat around the inner parts, the covering of the liver, both kidneys with the fat on them, and the right thigh. (This is the ram for the ordination.) MSG 23 Also take one loaf of bread, an oil cake, and a wafer from the breadbasket that is in the presence of God. NIV 23 From the basket of bread made without yeast, which is before the LORD, take a loaf, and a cake made with oil, and a wafer. MSG 24 "Place all of these in the open hands of Aaron and his sons who will wave them before God, a Wave-Offering. NIV 24 Put all these in the hands of Aaron and his sons and wave them before the LORD as a wave offering. MSG 25 Then take them from their hands and burn them on the Altar with the Whole-Burnt-Offering - a pleasing fragrance before God, a gift to God. NIV 25 Then take them from their hands and burn them on the altar along with the burnt offering for a pleasing aroma to the LORD, an offering made to the LORD by fire. MSG 26 "Now take the breast from Aaron's ordination ram and wave it before God, a Wave-Offering. That will be your portion. NIV 26 After you take the breast of the ram for Aaron's ordination, wave it before the LORD as a wave offering, and it will be your share. MSG 27 "Consecrate the Wave-Offering breast and the thigh that was held up. These are the parts of the ordination ram that are for Aaron and his sons. NIV 27 "Consecrate those parts of the ordination ram that belong to Aaron and his sons: the breast that was waved and the thigh that was presented. MSG 28 Aaron and his sons are always to get this offering from the Israelites; the Israelites are to make this offering regularly from their Peace-Offerings. NIV 28 This is always to be the regular share from the Israelites for Aaron and his sons. It is the contribution the Israelites are to make to the LORD from their fellowship offerings. MSG 29 "Aaron's sacred garments are to be handed down to his descendants so they can be anointed and ordained in them. NIV 29 "Aaron's sacred garments will belong to his descendants so that they can be anointed and ordained in them. MSG 30 The son who succeeds him as priest is to wear them for seven days and enter the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place. NIV 30 The son who succeeds him as priest and comes to the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place is to wear them seven days. MSG 31 "Take the ordination ram and boil the meat in the Holy Place. NIV 31 "Take the ram for the ordination and cook the meat in a sacred place. MSG 32 At the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, Aaron and his sons will eat the boiled ram and the bread that is in the basket. NIV 32 At the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, Aaron and his sons are to eat the meat of the ram and the bread that is in the basket. MSG 33 Atoned by these offerings, ordained and consecrated by them, they are the only ones who are to eat them. No outsiders are to eat them; they're holy. NIV 33 They are to eat these offerings by which atonement was made for their ordination and consecration. But no one else may eat them, because they are sacred. MSG 34 Anything from the ordination ram or from the bread that is left over until morning you are to burn up. Don't eat it; it's holy. NIV 34 And if any of the meat of the ordination ram or any bread is left over till morning, burn it up. It must not be eaten, because it is sacred. MSG 35 "Do everything for the ordination of Aaron and his sons exactly as I've commanded you throughout the seven days. NIV 35 "Do for Aaron and his sons everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them. MSG 36 Offer a bull as an Absolution-Offering for atonement each day. Offer it on the Altar when you make atonement for it: Anoint and consecrate it. NIV 36 Sacrifice a bull each day as a sin offering to make atonement. Purify the altar by making atonement for it, and anoint it to consecrate it. MSG 37 Make atonement for the Altar and consecrate it for seven days; the Altar will become soaked in holiness - anyone who so much as touches the Altar will become holy. NIV 37 For seven days make atonement for the altar and consecrate it. Then the altar will be most holy, and whatever touches it will be holy. MSG 38 "This is what you are to offer on the Altar: two year-old lambs each and every day, NIV 38 "This is what you are to offer on the altar regularly each day: two lambs a year old. MSG 39 one lamb in the morning and the second lamb at evening. NIV 39 Offer one in the morning and the other at twilight. MSG 40 With the sacrifice of the first lamb offer two quarts of fine flour with a quart of virgin olive oil, plus a quart of wine for a Drink-Offering. NIV 40 With the first lamb offer a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter of a hin of oil from pressed olives, and a quarter of a hin of wine as a drink offering. MSG 41 The sacrifice of the second lamb, the one at evening, is also to be accompanied by the same Grain-Offering and Drink-Offering of the morning sacrifice to give a pleasing fragrance, a gift to God. NIV 41 Sacrifice the other lamb at twilight with the same grain offering and its drink offering as in the morning--a pleasing aroma, an offering made to the LORD by fire. MSG 42 "This is to be your regular, daily Whole-Burnt-Offering before God, generation after generation, sacrificed at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting. That's where I'll meet you; that's where I'll speak with you; NIV 42 "For the generations to come this burnt offering is to be made regularly at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD. There I will meet you and speak to you; MSG 43 that's where I'll meet the Israelites, at the place made holy by my Glory. NIV 43 there also I will meet with the Israelites, and the place will be consecrated by my glory. MSG 44 I'll make the Tent of Meeting and the Altar holy. I'll make Aaron and his sons holy in order to serve me as priests. NIV 44 "So I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting and the altar and will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve me as priests. MSG 45 I'll move in and live with the Israelites. I'll be their God. NIV 45 Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. MSG 46 They'll realize that I am their God who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I could live with them. I am God, your God. NIV 46 They will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.
