Exodus 40

NRS 1 The Lord spoke to Moses: NIV 1 Then the LORD said to Moses: NRS 2 On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. NIV 2 "Set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the first month. NRS 3 You shall put in it the ark of the covenant, and you shall screen the ark with the curtain. NIV 3 Place the ark of the Testimony in it and shield the ark with the curtain. NRS 4 You shall bring in the table, and arrange its setting; and you shall bring in the lampstand, and set up its lamps. NIV 4 Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. NRS 5 You shall put the golden altar for incense before the ark of the covenant, and set up the screen for the entrance of the tabernacle. NIV 5 Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. NRS 6 You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, NIV 6 "Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting; NRS 7 and place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it. NRS 10 You shall also anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, so that the altar shall be most holy. NIV 10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy. NRS 11 You shall also anoint the basin with its stand, and consecrate it. NIV 11 Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them. NRS 12 Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting, and shall wash them with water, NIV 12 "Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. NRS 13 and put on Aaron the sacred vestments, and you shall anoint him and consecrate him, so that he may serve me as priest. NIV 13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest. NRS 14 You shall bring his sons also and put tunics on them, NIV 14 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics. NRS 15 and anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may serve me as priests: and their anointing shall admit them to a perpetual priesthood throughout all generations to come. NIV 15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations to come." NRS 16 Moses did everything just as the Lord had commanded him. NIV 16 Moses did everything just as the LORD commanded him. NRS 17 In the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was set up. NIV 17 So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year. NRS 18 Moses set up the tabernacle; he laid its bases, and set up its frames, and put in its poles, and raised up its pillars; NIV 18 When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts. NRS 19 and he spread the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent over it; as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the LORD commanded him. NRS 20 He took the covenant and put it into the ark, and put the poles on the ark, and set the mercy seat above the ark; NIV 20 He took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it. NRS 21 and he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the curtain for screening, and screened the ark of the covenant; as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 21 Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the Testimony, as the LORD commanded him. NRS 22 He put the table in the tent of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the curtain, NIV 22 Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain NRS 23 and set the bread in order on it before the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 23 and set out the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him. NRS 24 He put the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle, NIV 24 He placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle NRS 25 and set up the lamps before the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 25 and set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him. NRS 26 He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the curtain, NIV 26 Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting in front of the curtain NRS 27 and offered fragrant incense on it; as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the LORD commanded him. NRS 28 He also put in place the screen for the entrance of the tabernacle. NIV 28 Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. NRS 29 He set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 29 He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the LORD commanded him. NRS 30 He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing, NIV 30 He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, NRS 31 with which Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet. NIV 31 and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet. NRS 32 When they went into the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed; as the Lord had commanded Moses. NIV 32 They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses. NRS 33 He set up the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and put up the screen at the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work. NIV 33 Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work. NRS 34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. NIV 34 Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. NRS 35 Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled upon it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. NIV 35 Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. NRS 36 Whenever the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, the Israelites would set out on each stage of their journey; NIV 36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; NRS 37 but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day that it was taken up. NIV 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out--until the day it lifted. NRS 38 For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, before the eyes of all the house of Israel at each stage of their journey. NIV 38 So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel during all their travels.
