Exodus 5:1-6

NRS 1 Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, "Let my people go, so that they may celebrate a festival to me in the wilderness.' " NIV 1 Afterward Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the desert.' " NRS 2 But Pharaoh said, "Who is the Lord, that I should heed him and let Israel go? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go." NIV 2 Pharaoh said, "Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go." NRS 3 Then they said, "The God of the Hebrews has revealed himself to us; let us go a three days' journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to the Lord our God, or he will fall upon us with pestilence or sword." NIV 3 Then they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Now let us take a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God, or he may strike us with plagues or with the sword." NRS 4 But the king of Egypt said to them, "Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their work? Get to your labors!" NIV 4 But the king of Egypt said, "Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor? Get back to your work!" NRS 5 Pharaoh continued, "Now they are more numerous than the people of the land and yet you want them to stop working!" NIV 5 Then Pharaoh said, "Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you are stopping them from working." NRS 6 That same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, as well as their supervisors, NIV 6 That same day Pharaoh gave this order to the slave drivers and foremen in charge of the people:
