Ezekiel 18:1-6

CEB 1 The LORD's word came to me: NIV 1 The word of the LORD came to me: CEB 2 What do you mean by this proverb of yours about the land of Israel: "When parents eat unripe grapes, the children's teeth suffer"? NIV 2 "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: " 'The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'? CEB 3 As surely as I live, says the LORD God, no longer will you use this proverb in Israel! NIV 3 "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel. CEB 4 All lives are mine; the life of the parent and the life of the child belong to me. Only the one who sins will die. NIV 4 For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die. CEB 5 People are declared innocent when they act justly and responsibly. NIV 5 "Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right. CEB 6 They don't eat on the hills or give their attention to the idols of the house of Israel. They don't defile the wives of their neighbors or approach menstruating women. NIV 6 He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife or lie with a woman during her period.
