Ezekiel 18:1-6

GW 1 The LORD spoke his word to me. He said, NIV 1 The word of the LORD came to me: GW 2 "What do you mean when you use this proverb about the land of Israel: 'Fathers have eaten sour grapes, and their children's teeth are set on edge'? NIV 2 "What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel: " 'The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge'? GW 3 As I live, declares the Almighty LORD, you will no longer use this proverb in Israel. NIV 3 "As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel. GW 4 The life of every person belongs to me. Fathers and their children belong to me. The person who sins will die. NIV 4 For every living soul belongs to me, the father as well as the son--both alike belong to me. The soul who sins is the one who will die. GW 5 "Suppose a righteous person does what is fair and right. NIV 5 "Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right. GW 6 He doesn't eat at the illegal mountain worship sites or look for help from the idols of the nation of Israel. He doesn't dishonor his neighbor's wife or have sexual intercourse with a woman while she is having her period. NIV 6 He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of the house of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor's wife or lie with a woman during her period.
