Ezra 8:21-23

KJV 21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance. NIV 21 There, by the Ahava Canal, I proclaimed a fast, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him for a safe journey for us and our children, with all our possessions. KJV 22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying , The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him. NIV 22 I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, "The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him." KJV 23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us. NIV 23 So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
