Galatians 1

DBY 1 Paul, apostle, not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ, and God [the] Father who raised him from among [the] dead, NIV 1 Paul, an apostle--sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- DBY 2 and all the brethren with me, to the assemblies of Galatia. NIV 2 and all the brothers with me, To the churches in Galatia: DBY 3 Grace to you, and peace, from God [the] Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, NIV 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, DBY 4 who gave himself for our sins, so that he should deliver us out of the present evil world, according to the will of our God and Father; NIV 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, DBY 5 to whom [be] glory to the ages of ages. Amen. NIV 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. DBY 6 I wonder that ye thus quickly change, from him that called you in Christ's grace, to a different gospel, NIV 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- DBY 7 which is not another [one]; but there are some that trouble you, and desire to pervert the glad tidings of the Christ. NIV 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. DBY 8 But if even *we* or an angel out of heaven announce as glad tidings to you [anything] besides what we have announced as glad tidings to you, let him be accursed. NIV 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! DBY 9 As we have said before, now also again I say, If any one announce to you as glad tidings [anything] besides what ye have received, let him be accursed. NIV 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! DBY 10 For do I now seek to satisfy men or God? or do I seek to please men? If I were yet pleasing men, I were not Christ's bondman. NIV 10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. DBY 11 But I let you know, brethren, [as to] the glad tidings which were announced by me, that they are not according to man. NIV 11 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. DBY 12 For neither did I receive them from man, neither was I taught [them], but by revelation of Jesus Christ. NIV 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. DBY 13 For ye have heard [what was] my conversation formerly in Judaism, that I excessively persecuted the assembly of God, and ravaged it; NIV 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. DBY 14 and advanced in Judaism beyond many [my] contemporaries in my nation, being exceedingly zealous of the doctrines of my fathers. NIV 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. DBY 15 But when God, who set me apart [even] from my mother's womb, and called [me] by his grace, NIV 15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased DBY 16 was pleased to reveal his Son in me, that I may announce him as glad tidings among the nations, immediately I took not counsel with flesh and blood, NIV 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, DBY 17 nor went I up to Jerusalem to those [who were] apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and again returned to Damascus. NIV 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus. DBY 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to make acquaintance with Peter, and I remained with him fifteen days; NIV 18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days. DBY 19 but I saw none other of the apostles, but James the brother of the Lord. NIV 19 I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother. DBY 20 Now what I write to you, behold, before God, I do not lie. NIV 20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. DBY 21 Then I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. NIV 21 Later I went to Syria and Cilicia. DBY 22 But I was unknown personally to the assemblies of Judaea which [are] in Christ; NIV 22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. DBY 23 only they were hearing that he who persecuted us formerly now announces the glad tidings of the faith which formerly he ravaged: NIV 23 They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy." DBY 24 and they glorified God in me. NIV 24 And they praised God because of me.
